Journal Uniqueness and Mission

Journal of Contemporary Governance and Public Policy, registered under ISSN 2722-3981 (Print) and ISSN 2722-3973 (Online), is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing scholarly dialogue and providing practical insights into the evolving fields of governance and public policy. It serves as a platform for academics, practitioners, policymakers, and civil society actors to critically engage with emerging challenges and innovations at the local, national, and global levels.

Governance and public policy encompass dynamic interactions among institutions, regulatory frameworks, and societal actors working collaboratively to achieve public objectives. The journal invites research that critically examines the political, administrative, legal, and social dimensions of governance, including, but not limited to, policy design and implementation, institutional reform, participatory governance, transparency, accountability, and digital transformation in the public sector.

Particular emphasis is placed on the perspectives, practices, and challenges emerging from the Global South, recognising that these contexts offer unique and valuable insights into governance in the face of rapid development, institutional volatility, and resource limitations. The journal seeks to amplify underrepresented voices and empirical experiences from these regions to enrich theoretical discourse and promote meaningful cross-regional knowledge exchange. We are also committed to ensuring that researchers from the Global South have equal opportunities and to addressing imbalances in academic publishing, particularly within the realms of contemporary governance and public policy. To this end, we feature a dedicated article written by one of our editors, Abel Polese, titled "Abel Polese Highlights the Challenges Faced by Global South Researchers in Academic Publishing." 

While the journal remains open to a broad range of themes within governance and public policy, it prioritises contributions that align with the principles of sustainable development, equity, and good governance—particularly those directly addressing specific targets of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In doing so, it aims to foster the production of knowledge that is not only methodologically robust but also socially transformative, responding to public needs and policy practice.
